Clean Driver Installation Guide
For the best results, we recommend performing a clean driver installation. This removes any leftover files from previous drivers that could cause conflicts or performance issues.
Download Required Tools
Before starting, download these tools:
- NVCleanstall — Lightweight NVIDIA driver installer that lets you customize which components to install
- Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) — Completely removes all traces of NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel graphics drivers
Prepare Drivers with NVCleanstall
NVCleanstall gives you full control over what gets installed:
- aRun NVCleanstall, select your recommended driver version from the list, and click "Next"
- bSelect only the components you need. Recommended minimum:
- ✅ Display Driver
- ✅ PhysX (required for some games)
- ✅ HD Audio via HDMI (if you use HDMI/DP audio)
- ⬜ GeForce Experience (optional — skip for cleaner install)
- ⬜ Telemetry (skip to reduce background processes)
- cOn the tweaks page, check "Disable Installer Telemetry & Advertising" and "Perform a Clean Installation"
- dClick "Show Expert Tweaks" and enable "Enable Hardware-accelerated GPU Scheduling" (recommended for Windows 10/11). If you experience instability later, try disabling HAGS in Windows Settings.
- eClick "Next" to reach the install screen, click "Build Package" and save it, but do not install yet — proceed to Step 3 first

Remove Old Drivers with DDU
Boot into Windows Safe Mode for the cleanest removal. Tip: Temporarily disconnect from the internet or disable your network adapter before running DDU to ensure Windows does not auto-install drivers.
- aOpen Settings (Win + I) → System → Recovery → click "Restart now" under Advanced startup. Follow the Startup Settings path and select option 4
- bOnce in Safe Mode, run DDU as Administrator
- cSelect GPU as device type and NVIDIA as the manufacturer
- dClick "Options" → Under General Options, enable "Remove C:\NVIDIA", "Remove PhysX", and "Create restore point". Under NVIDIA Specific Options, enable all checkboxes. Most importantly, tick "Prevent downloads of drivers from Windows Update"
- eClick "Clean and restart" — DDU will remove all driver files and registry entries

Install the Driver
Now install the driver package you prepared in Step 2:
- aRun the driver package you saved earlier (e.g.,
NVCleanstall_NVIDIA_581.80_x64_dch_Desktop_Setup.exe) - bAgree to the NVIDIA license agreement and continue
- cUnder Installation Options, select "Custom (Advanced)" and click Next
- dVerify that the "Current version" column is empty (confirms DDU cleaned properly) and click Next
- eReboot your PC when the installation completes
Configure NVIDIA Control Panel
Open NVIDIA Control Panel and configure the following settings:
- aUnder "Adjust image settings with preview", select "Use the advanced 3D image settings". Click Apply.
- bUnder "Manage 3D settings", choose the Program Settings tab and select Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 from the dropdown menu.
- cScroll down to "Power management mode" and choose "Prefer maximum performance". Click Apply.
- dUnder "Change resolution", scroll down to PC and select your screen resolution. On the right, under Refresh rate, choose your screen's optimal refresh rate. Optionally, at the bottom select "Use NVIDIA color settings": Highest (32-bit), 10 bpc, RGB, Full. Click Apply.
- eUnder "Adjust desktop color settings", you can adjust the Digital Vibrance slider (many users find 60% pleasing, but this is optional and varies by screen).
- fUnder "Set up G-SYNC", ensure it's enabled if your monitor supports it.
- gUnder "Adjust video color settings", choose "With the NVIDIA settings" → Advanced → Full. Click Apply.
Note: These settings are general recommendations based on personal experience and may not be perfect for all systems. Feel free to adjust based on your specific hardware and preferences.
